The Metropolitan Police has revealed that more than 35 officers have been involved in drug-related activities over the past three years, according to a exclusive report by The Mirror.

The news comes as recent revelations from a disciplinary hearing disclosed that a former armed officer, PC Matthew Thomas, from the elite diplomatic protection unit had compromised security due to cocaine use after his contact details were found in a dealer’s phone.

From January 2020 to November 2022, the statistics encompass a notable incident involving PC William Holyoake, who received a community order for possessing weed and offensive weapons, as he was found with the Class B drug, three police-issued batons and a butterfly knife, and was taken to a criminal court where he was subsequently given a community order.

The report also showed that in a February 2021 hearing, PC Aaron Smith told his inspector that he had been inhaling nitrous oxide and also took cocaine.
